The Swan 25 Hp

The Engine

The Swan 25 Hp engine being scaled is the fine example at the Cool Spring Power Museum. It has been measures by Ynzie Madema of the Netherlands.

This engine is an early (around 1901) oil field engine. It is a 4 stroke, with a cross slide and hot tube ignition. Both intake and exhaust valves are operated by cams on the side shaft, and is throttle governed by a flyball governor, also off the side shaft. The Swan was designed to be run on natural gas. The flywheels are bolted on to tapered flanges which tighten against the crank shaft.

The Shop

Lone Star Engine Works now has a Barber Coleman #3 Gear Hobber. We make the gears for our kits in house.

This allows gears to be custom made for each engine.
