The Monarch Corliss Model
Steam Engine
A 1/20 Scale Model
I measured the original
engine, which still exists in very good, but not running condition.
Every attempt was made to keep to exact scale, and also to preserve
full functionality for each feature of the engine.
This engine was
used to operate a cotten mill in central Texas during part of
the mid 1900's. It was built by H.N.Strait MFG. Co. in Kansas
City U.S.A. Is my belief that this engine was not new when installed
in the cotten mill. From the research I did, the only reference
to H.N Strait Co. which I was able to find was in the 1880 to
1900 time period. So, I believe the engine was built sometime
around then. This is a well designed version of the Corliss, addressing
all of the problems (See Brad Smiths Corliss articles in Modeltech)
that some of the Corliss designs had.
